Feeding Time

Feeding Time

Leaning over the old bridge,
studying my silence, I watch.
Like breathing brocade
the carp – weave through mirrors,
fragment leaf-mottled waters
with measured gulps.
Summoned to the surface by
timing, by memory or perhaps
a distinct lack of both?
